Good morning shredders! Here is your daily dose of Mt. Bachelor conditions:
We’re in the final moments of the 2017-18 ski & snowboard season and we’re finishing it off with the Board, Bike & Brew Festival! More on that below… but first, an update on the mountain conditions. With the strong May sunshine, the snowpack is shrinking and we’re fortunate that we can squeak in one final day on Sunday. But with bare patches and lava rock increasingly revealing themselves, please note the following:
The only Summit terrain open is Bev Hills and Healy Heights. Access to Cow’s Face, the Cirque Bowl, the peak hike and West Ridge is closed due to exposed rock and no ability to execute a patrol rescue.
The Summit Uphill Travel route is closed for the same reasons.
Grooming is limited in the Pine Marten & Skyliner lift areas and the open terrain is best suited for skiers/snowboarders who consider themselves intermediate or better in ability. Watch for obstacles, marked and unmarked.
Don’t forget your pass! It might still be in your winter jacket. Make sure you take it with you so you don’t have to get a replacement.
Back to the Board, Bike & Brew Festival… if you haven’t heard about it, this is a rare chance to ski or snowboard AND downhill mountain bike… all on the same day! Everyone who has a valid lift ticket or season pass to ski/snowboard can visit the the Mountain Gateway ticket office to receive a FREE bike ticket for Sunshine lift (after signing an Assumption of Risk Agreement – parent/guardian signature required for minors). Plus, those who ski/snowboard and mountain bike can pick up a FREE commemorative t-shirt at the Mt. Bachelor tent at the top of the hot walk (while supplies last)!
Also on tap is the 10 Barrel beer garden in the base area with live music, the Vibram Sole Factor Tour (get your shoes resoled for the bargain price of $30!), the North American Pond Skimming Championships, and an Instagram contest with a huge prize package. Check out the complete schedule for all the details.
As the 2017-18 ski and snowboard season draws to a close this weekend, we look forward to hosting you for some final turns and lots of celebratory fun!
