Good morning shredders! Here is your daily dose of Mt. Bachelor conditions:
Change is in the air this morning as the days of sunshine is stepping aside for a very welcome blast of winter weather. Groomed runs will still be the hot ticket with our mountain crews laying down that smooth corduroy overnight. Snow is in the forecast for later in the day so expect possible storm conditions as we head into the afternoon. We welcome the arrival of everybody participating in the 10th Annual Dirksen Derby this weekend, check that out over at our Sunrise Lodge and Rainbow Chairlift. It’s going to be a great start to an awesome weekend, drive safe on your way up and we’ll see you on the hill.
More good news… Sunrise Lodge and parking are now open for the season, with food & beverage, ticket and rental services available at our east side base. New this year, lessons are headquartered at West Village, so plan to start your day at our primary base area if you’d like to improve your skiing or snowboarding skills with one of our professional coaches. Up at Pine Marten Lodge, Scapolo’s restaurant is now open for seven-day-a-week operation, while Sparks Cafe opens for the season on Saturday.
On the mountain, Rainbow Chair has been added to the daily lift schedule. Be sure to take a lap on I-5 run – it’s been home to the deepest and best snow on the mountain recently. While you’re out that way, check out the Dirksen Derby. The competition is full, but some of the world’s best snowboarders will be racing down hand-crafted courses through the trees.
And… perhaps the best news… we’re moving forward with plans to open Cloudchaser lift on Thursday, December 21. We’ve deliberately chosen that date based on the forecast of significant new snow Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Please read the detailed mountain conditions update from John McLeod, Mt. Bachelor’s president and general manager, for more insight into what we’re doing to expand our terrain offerings – including some work in the Outback area.
Thanks for your patience during this dry spell. We’re all eager for the new snow which will allow us to open significantly more terrain as we head into the holidays!
