Opening Day is Here!

The anticipation of opening day is building as the day is fast upon us.  Saturday marks the start of the 2017-2018 Winter Ski Season and we look forward to seeing all the smiling faces back on the hill.  It will be hustling and bustling with excitement up here as we commence another fabulous year of skiing and riding on Mt. Bachelor.  With some pretty good conditions expect a busy morning at the ticket office and on the mountain.  These snow conditions are really nice for November but please remember that it is still early in the season and there will be plenty of marked and unmarked obstacles out there.

Thanks to our new partner, YETI, the first 50 customers to load the Pine Marten lift Saturday morning will receive a free Rambler 26 oz. Bottle!

All 2017-2018 Full Season, 12 Day and 4 Day Passes will be valid for use beginning Saturday. And great news for Midweek Pass holders, you’re welcome to join us opening weekend as well! Your passes will be valid both Saturday and Sunday, November 18-19. For those who don’t have a season pass, single-day lifts tickets will offered at reduced prices: $63 for adults, $52 for teens/seniors and $36 for youth/70+.

Special Opening Day Message from John McLeod, Mt. Bachelor’s president and general manager

Welcome to the 2017-18 ski season. Mother Nature has been kind, and all of us here at Mt Bachelor are excited to be opening earlier than scheduled, with what looks to be great skiing and riding conditions for the weekend.

We are expecting a busy day today. For many of you this may be your first drive on wintry roads this season, so please drive carefully and arrive safely. Carpooling is always a great idea to keep traffic down, park closer, conserve your gas money and enhance your social skills. Let’s start this season with a commitment to carpooling more.

The early opening compressed our preparation timeframe a little, including time for folks to obtain their season pass in advance of opening day, so for those of you planning to collect your pass today, you should expect to spend some quality time with in line with your likeminded colleagues. We will be open at 8am to begin selling tickets and fulfilling passes, I ask you to please be kind to each other and to our staff who will be working as hard as they can to get your pass issued so you can get out on the mountain.

We are working on a lot of new things in Food and Beverage land, and efforts had to be diverted to getting open instead of completing projects. Consequently, some of our planned improvements are not yet ready for service, including our expanded bar kitchen which is still under construction, so food service in the bar will be from Cocoa’s for now. Even so you should see some new things today, and we will have other planned improvements fully implemented in time for the December holiday rush.

We will be opening with 4 lifts this morning, Skyliner, Sunshine, Pine Marten and Red, along with all the terrain available from those lifts. There are areas of thin coverage, especially around the top of Pine and on the ridges between the runs, so be aware of these conditions and also the fact that the area at this time is smaller than normal, so the runs and lift lines may be more crowded than you are accustomed to. Please appreciate the fact that we have this great early season snow and there are lots of likeminded folks in our community to enjoy it with. We have a long season to look forward to, so ease yourself into it, be safe and have fun out there.

See you on the hill!

Cheers,
John

Opening Weekend Details and Services Offered

The 2017-18 winter season is getting an early start at Mt. Bachelor with opening day planned for Saturday, November 18. Given this is the earliest opening in more than 10 years, we’re working hard and fast to get the mountain and base areas ready for all of our guests. We ask for some patience as we expect a lot of you to attend our opening weekend. Here are some details about what we plan to offer:

Lifts and Terrain

Three lifts are scheduled both days this weekend from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:  Pine Marten, Sunshine Accelerator and Skyliner. Red has been added to the schedule for Saturday. There will be terrain available for all ability levels, including a terrain park set up in Pacific City, but please remember that early season conditions exist and the safest areas will be the groomed runs. Watch for marked and unmarked obstacles, natural and human-made.

Over at the Nordic Center , expect groomed trails with the compactor bar on the upper Nordic trails. Conditions permitting, we may be able to groom a couple trails to the Middle complex. Trail passes will be discounted to $13 for adults and $10 for other ages.

Tickets and Passes

Lines for season pass pick-up are historically lengthy during the first couple weeks of the season. We’re expecting a large crowd this weekend, so we ask for your patience as we process season passes as quickly as we can. The doors to the Ticket Sales and Service Center will open at 8:00 a.m. Please be prepared for wait times that could exceed an hour.

If you need to purchase a lift ticket , visit one of the exterior ticket windows. Lift tickets are $63 for adults, $52 for teens (13-18) and seniors (65-69) and $36 for youth (6-12) and seniors (70+).

Base Area Services

Mountain Gateway building at West Village will be in full operation with the Gravity Sports shop , ski & snowboard demos , tuning & repair and the rental center open for you. If you need to rent equipment , bypass the lower level and head straight up the stairs to the counter on the upper level. This can be your one-stop shop for equipment and lift tickets.

Food and beverage service will be available at Cocoa’s Cafe and Pinnacles in West Village Lodge and Pinnacles in Mountain Gateway. We’re putting the finishing touches on a project to expand the Clearing Rock Bar kitchen, due to be complete by Thanksgiving, so there will not be any food service in the bar this weekend. But drinks will be served and you are welcome to bring some food from Cocoa’s Cafe into the Clearing Rock Bar.

Lessons will be offered this weekend, but on a limited basis. Private lessons for all ages and two-hour group lessons for ages 6 and older are available. Visit the Ticket Sales & Service Center on the lower level to sign up for a lesson. Full day programs, lessons for kids ages 5 and younger, and childcare services will not be available until Friday, November 24.

Both the West Village and Skyliner parking areas will be open. To park at Skyliner, you must have an active season pass, as there are no ticket or pass services available at that parking area. Otherwise, plan to start your day at West Village. Sunrise Lodge and parking will open in mid-December.

As for the Mt. Bachelor Shuttle , the full schedule launches on Friday, November 24. There will be very limited shuttle service starting this weekend with one bus operating each departure. It will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and we apologize if we cannot seat everyone. Until the full schedule launches Thanksgiving weekend, we recommend driving to the mountain in carpools. View the bus schedule .

Thank You

We’re excited as you are to begin our winter ski and snowboard season. Thank you for your patronage and we look forward to seeing you on the mountain soon!

Hiking for Early Season Turns

Now that we’ve announced an opening day, our Winter Uphill Travel Policy is now in effect. This means that the only area open to hiking at Mt. Bachelor is the Cinder Cone. All other areas of the mountain are off-limits to hiking and skiing/riding. Please visit our Safety and Uphill Travel page for important safety information and to read the latest information about our uphill travel policy and hiking restrictions.
