Good morning shredders! Here is your daily dose of Mt. Bachelor conditions:
It is currently snowing here at Mt Bachelor with 1 inch to report overnight. The story of the day is going to be the huge winter storm that is arriving this morning and forecast to last through Friday. We could receive a significant amount of snow during the day on Thursday. With the amount of snow predicted, today could be one of those epic storm days that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Since we’ll be expecting this storm to hit hard and heavy, please come prepared for challenging road conditions. We’re thinking HIGH CLEARANCE, WINTER READY 4-WHEEL DRIVE & AWD VEHICLES are more of a requirement than a recommendation.
We’re serving breakfast in Cocoa’s Cafe starting at 7:30 a.m. daily this season. Get an early start, beat the traffic and enjoy a hearty breakfast slopeside before hitting the hill.
While all the new snow has our stoke levels high, please be aware that early season conditions exist. Watch for marked and unmarked hazards. And take it easy on the road.
ADDITIONAL LIFT & TERRAIN OPENINGS – The Sunrise and Outback lifts are scheduled to open for the season no later than Saturday. We have crews prepping both areas. You might notice Outback lift spinning from time to time – it’s part of the preparation process. In the meantime, please obey all closure signs.
SUMMIT LIFT STATUS – Summit will look very inviting with a fresh blanket of snow and many of us are hungry to ski down from the top (including this author!) Our veteran folks in the operations department tell us that, in order to open Summit for the first time each season, they need three days of non-vicious weather. The work includes getting a snow cat up to the top, constructing the unloading area, digging out the top terminal, grooming the catchline and setting boundary lines. Unfortunately, we just didn’t have enough time to get it all done before it starts snowin’ & blowin’ again tonight. But as soon as we see a longer break in the weather, we’ll be on it. In the meantime, remember that the Summit climbing route is closed. Patrol will be skinning up periodically to do some avalanche reduction work in the bowl; it’s not safe for anyone else to be up there until the lift is ready to ride.
Thanks for your patience… keep thinking snow… and we look forward to seeing you soon.
